Johnny Ray LaSalle is a typical, fourteen-year-old Black boy in Louisiana during 1935. At least, he thought he was before seeing his parents gasping their last breaths as a rope is tightened around the their throats. His awareness fades after succumbing to his body’s weight upon his neck. Screams echo from his mouth as flames are burning his skin, muscles, and bones into black vapors. However, he is not alone. Teeth, claws, bayonets, and swords plunge into his body like needles through cloth before a white tunnel provides a temporary refuge. The realm of shadows, flames, and screams become one with bright, reflective crystals, lights, rainbows, and indescribable lakes inundating the bright dimension as seven figures constantly kneel before an indescribable Throne. His attention is suddenly diverted from the Majestic Figure by a fifteen-foot being of light. He is given an everlasting curse, a purpose, a new name, and abilities before awakening with a noose upon his neck. However, the same shadows threaten to drag him back to the darkness if he does not succeed. His life and his purpose are connected to someone who will not even be born for nearly a century. Will he fulfill his purpose, or will his ashes be scattered across burning lakes and slithering shadows after facing failure?
